What to expect from our Skills To Foster training course…

Skills to Foster training is a course that Rainbow Fostering Services provide for our applicants in the first few months of their application. The course is generally three days long and takes place at our head office in North Harrow. Don’t worry, if you live far away, for example in Luton, Hampshire or South and East London, all other training courses in your fostering career will be held at a range of locations nearer to where you live.

The Skills to Foster training course is an opportunity for you to meet with other applicants going through the same application process as you. Our carers often feedback that this is a good chance to talk to other people who may be sharing the same anxieties or feelings as them.

The course is generally made up of a diverse range of people from different ethnic backgrounds, age groups and family set ups. All of whom come with their own unique set of skills and life experiences that can be drawn upon when fostering.

At the course you will learn about a wide variety of topics ranging from the rewards of fostering to the demands of dealing with challenging behaviour. We will also offer guidance in areas such as working with a foster child’s birth family, protecting yourself from allegations, helping a child to settle into your home and working in partnership with professionals.

Where possible we will have an approved foster carer in attendance at the course and he or she will be able to share with you some of their experiences. They are there to answer any questions you may have and can give you an insight into the rewards and realities of fostering.

Food is also provided, as are tea and coffee and we aim to help you feel relaxed and supported throughout the three days. Our next course will start on 29th April, continuing on to the 30th April and 1st May 2015.

We would love you see anyone there who is considering become a foster carer, so please telephone our recruitment team today on 0208 427 3355 to book yourself a slot.
